Snow White, and two books about books

I just watched Snow White and the Huntsman, and while this is my normal opinion of Kristen Stewart:

In this movie she was surprisingly emotional! The plot was good, if a little simple. I think they could have put a bit more about the forest in there.
But do you know what the most annoying thing was?
THERE WERE EIGHT DWARVES, AND THEY WEREN'T REAL DWARVES.
They just got famous, tall, actors, and digitally shrunk them. If you ask me that's discrimination.
But anyway, on to the second part of the title
BOOKSBOOKSBOOKSBOOKSBOOKSBOOKS
So I recently finished 2 extremely good books
The first was The Curious Dictionary, by Nick Earls. I'ts pretty much about the origin of words, sounds boring I know, but its actually chimerical!!
Look that one up yourself

The second tome is called city of dreaming books
ITS JUST FANTABULOUS!! AMAZENDOUS!! GROOL!!! WONDABLE!!!!!
And my personal favourite...
 SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS

You didn't say that, you sung it

So a few weeks ago, I made cupcakes. I know what you're thinking
Cupcakes... vegan?... BLASPHEMY!!!!!!!
But before you track me down and come after me with pitchforks, I DID MAKE THEM VEGAN!!!
So I'll include the normal recipe and the vegan equivalents. Okay? Good. Now...
TO BUSINESS

Ingredients

  • 220g (7oz) butter (Nuttelex)
  • 230g (7/1 3oz) caster sugar
  • 205g (6½oz) eggs (I use my own chickens eggs, so theres no real equivalent)
  • 330g (11oz) flour
  • 12g (1oz) baking powder
  • 90ml (3fl oz) milk  (Soy or coconut milk, can't remember which)
  • 10g (/1 3oz) vanilla bean paste
  • 30g (1oz) sour cream  (there isn't really a vegan equivalent, so i just didn't include it. coconut cream maybe)
  • 40g (1/1 3oz) chopped pistachios
  • 7g (/1 3oz) ground cardamom

Vanilla Frosting

  • 115g (4oz) butter  (Nuttelex)
  • 310g (10/1 3oz) pure icing sugar
  • 25g (2 / 3oz) egg white, pasturised  (didn't actually use one. didn't really make a difference)
  • ½ teaspoon lemon juice
  • 10g (1oz) vanilla bean extract
  • Method

    1. 1Preheat oven to 145ºC/275ºF/Gas mark 2.
    2. 2In an electric mixer on high speed, cream butter and sugar until mixture turns from yellow to off-white (between 5 and 20 minutes, depending on softness of butter).
    3. 3Add eggs, one at a time, beating between additions. Do not allow mixture to split.
    4. 4Sift flour and baking powder together and, in a separate bowl, combine milk and vanilla bean paste.
    5. 5Add half the flour mixture, half the milk mixture and half the sour cream to the butter mixture. Mix well, then add remaining flour mixture, milk mixture and sour cream. Fold in pistachios and cardamom powder.
    6. 6Spoon mixture into mini cupcake foils, about 20g each.
    7. 7Bake for 30 minutes, turning tray around once at 15 minutes.

    Vanilla Frosting

    1. 1Whip the butter until pale and creamy. Add icing sugar and
    2. 2beat on high speed for a further 5–10 minutes. Add egg whites, lemon juice and vanilla bean extract.
    3. 3Cream for an additional 3 minutes.
    4. 4Spread over cooked cupcakes

    5. This is a sparkle cupcakery recipe. If you don't live in Sydney, you probably have no idea where that is. Oh well. You'll cope
      I can't find a photo :(
Hello again! I realise that the name of this blog may be a little misleading "The SWEET Things in life" really does suggest something to do with cakes, lollies etc. But... no. I am a vegan who eats eggs, and is occasionally not a vegan, so that means that I probably won't be posting cakes or lollies. But... I will be posting things!! Have no fear! Clothes, food, my dog, books, houses, books, news, books.. pretty much anything I find interesting. So mostly books.
Anyway, bye bye for now.
Or maybe not
Maybe this is not goodbye
Maybe I'm right next to you
No seriously, bye.
